Alice Douglass Rowan Wakefield 

1813-1854

Alice Douglass Rowan Wakefield was the second of the Rowan children to be born in the mansion at Federal Hill on September 14, 1813. She was named for Judge Rowan’s sister, Alice Rowan Douglass. Alice married twice; first in 1832 to Sidney Shaw of Mississippi, who died less than two years later. After six years as a widow, she married Dr. Henry May Wakefield. He passed away in 1851. Alice died in Bardstown in 1854 and, along with Dr. Wakefield, is buried in the Rowan family cemetery at Federal Hill. They had no children.
