Maude Rowan Starr
1851-1932
Maude Rowan and her twin sister May were born c. 1851. When visiting in 1862, their cousin, Colonel William Haynes Lytle, wrote that the children were “perfectly beautiful” and that May was “a brunette with dark eyes and black ringlets, and Maude a blond with the most beautiful head of wavy golden hair you ever saw.” In 1886, she married Charles Starr. Maude was the last surviving sibling of her generation of Rowans, and died in 1932 at the age of 81. She and her husband are buried in the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.
